A painted model is both the art and the canvas.
A serene woman, painted in shades of green, pink, red, yellow, and black, stands in front of an abstract background of the same colors. The background is vaguely floral. The model can be seen from the waist up. Her hands are posed in prayer. Her eyes are closed and her eyelids are painted golden yellow. Black and pink stripes run down her pale green face but do not cross over her deep pink lips. She is wearing a head scarf in the same colors of the background, blending the subject and the background into one color palette.

Artist Statement

To the individual undergoing the act of being painted it packs the capacity to create a visual expression so electric, so powerful, so impactful that it completely overrides the cumulative expression of identity that each of us carries around from day to day. The individuals name, race, sex and history are gone. All of the descriptive information about who a person thinks they are does not matter anymore. Instead they have become a living, breathing work of art! "

"Artist Rebecca Rose’s canvas can sing, laugh, scream and dance, as her canvas is living art! Rose aims to explore and expand the perceptions and boundaries of the ancient and alluring art form of body painting, as her work is a fusion of art; from traditional canvas backgrounds, to dance, found objects and photography."
