Artist Statement
While traveling in Seoul, South Korea I was in awe of the confluence of historical and modern architecture that sat harmoniously with nature. I was also inspired by the history of Changdeokgung being rebuilt in 1610 after all palaces in Seoul were burnt down during a 1592 invasion. Feeling the balance of the pungsu principles upon which the palace was built, I captured this image to remind me of the importance of integration and resilience.
Changdeokgung Palace, situated at the foot of a Seoul mountain range, features tiled hipped roofs with a corbelled multi-bracket system and ornamental carvings and painting.
